It’s been over a year since I’ve reviewed any books on this site.  Oddly enough, it took a children’s book written by a hometown surfer to get me back to the computer. Looks like Saltwater Buddha author and dad, Jaimal Yogis, got tired of reading Rhinos Who Surf to his family and decided to write his own children’s book. Turtles Don’t Surf is a sweet, colorful book that follows the plight of a stoked little turtle who has been told by his ocean community that turtles don’t surf. Written in lilting verse, Yogi’s book is both fun and instructive, providing positive messages and a simple, fun story.  The illustrations are bright and cheerful. In fact, a companion coloring book or download would be a nice addition. Even without it, Turtles answers the eternal question that every surfer already knows in their heart: Turtles don’t surf? Of course they do! This is a great gift for young, stoked families.  (April 2014)
