Zero Break is a broad collection of surf writing, edited by the Encyclopedia of Surfing author, Matt Warshaw.  Warshaw has done an admirable job of compiling a good range of content, taking the reader from early observations on surfing by writers like Melville and Jack London to the musings of more contemporary fiction writers like Kem Nunn and Tom Wolfe. The variety of writing styles and types makes it easy to read and about the only downside is that if you want to keep reading certain passages beyond the bits that Warshaw selected, you’ll need to go purchase the original book yourself. Then again, isn’t that the whole point anyway? A solid collection.   (September 2008)
