This may very well be the most expensive book you ever buy. Why? Well, it’s not just a book; actually, it’s the most beautiful sales brochure ever. The destination is Tavarua, a sandy smudge in the heart of the Fijian archipelago, and home to one of the world’s most perfect surf spots, Cloudbreak. Photographer Scott Winer has been journeying to Tavarua for roughly 20 years, and has taken more than 100,000 photos during his travels. His book is a lush collection of imagery from this magical place, complete with shots of beaches, locals, fish, reef, wildlife, and of course, gorgeous surfing. While the book is slim, the richness of the photos more than makes up for it. At $65 for the basic edition, you’ll be paying about 70¢ a page, but that will pale in comparison to the amount you’ll have to shell out on your trip to Tavarua. If you’ve traveled to Tavarua, then you’ll want this book as a wonderful chronicle of your visit. If you haven’t been to Tavarua, well, let’s just say that if you buy the book you’ll probably be there at some point before you stop surfing. This book will make a nice gift for any wandering surfer.
