WL Rating

I picked this book up a couple months ago in a knick-knack shop in Waikiki. I like Evan Slater’s work so I figured this would be a keeper. Well, it’s a good book, but not a great one. The book concept is simple enough: See the beautiful impact of swells across the key oceans of the world - NorPac, Southern Indian Ocean, SoPac, and the Atlantic. The photos capture stunning shots of waves, some surfed, but all certainly coveted by any sane surfer. Slater’s words, what there are of them, are also good. But that’s my main issue with the book, namely, the lack of more of Slater’s commentary. He’s a very good writer and the book would have benefited from a touch more from him. Regardless, this is a very nice, easily read book for the coffee table.  (September 2012)
