WL Rating

Don’t give up on the book if you didn’t like the weak movie adaptation by the same name. The book does a much better job of telling the story of the ill-fated Gloucester-based fishing boat, the Andrea Gail.  Junger did extensive research for this book, scouring available published material, radio dialogues and numerous interviews with people who lived through the meteorological conditions that led to the storm of the century. The result is a gripping account of the event, the personalities involved and the tragic lives of the surviving families. A fast, can’t-put-the-book-down type of read. (August 2008)
