What Mickey Muñoz lacks in physical stature, he more than makes up in historical significance, storytelling ability, and a life well-lived. His Patagonia published memoirs entitled No Bad Waves: Talking Story with Mickey Muñoz, is a 150-page collection of short anecdotes and stories from over 40 years of surfing, sailing, and other water-related activities. While Muñoz doesn’t share the oversized personality of his friend Greg Noll, he does share Noll’s gift for weaving an interesting tale from a long life spent in the water.  In fact, Muñoz is more like Gerry Lopez in his ability to quietly, but articulately get his point across. Each memory shared by Muñoz is short, but relevant, and typically accompanied by some fantastic never before seen pictures. Stories aren’t only limited to Muñoz’s surfing exploits, the book also includes interesting stories about building and sailing catamarans, blowing up piers, paddle-boarding, and the list goes on. If you enjoy surfing biographies about folks like Noll, Lopez, and Dora, you’ll most likely find No Bad Waves a perfect addition to your library. Definitely a WL Essential. (October 2011)
